The Origin of "X-Mas"

have you ever wonder why some people tend to write X-Mas instead of Christmas? i was curious about this too and did some net surfing to find out why and i chance upon this article from "The Voice - Biblical and Theological Resources for Growing Christians", whick i am sharing to you just in case you are curious about this xmas thing just as i am. here goes the article below:

Some people seem to get worked up easily about things that are either largely irrelevant or incidental, or that they do not really understand. This seems to be the case with some religious folk when the topic is an aspect of Christianity that is personally important to them.
For example, around Christmas each year there are always those who loudly decry the use of the abbreviation "Xmas" as some kind of blasphemy against Christ and Christianity. This concern has been elevated recently with the public debates about manger scenes and the substitution of "holiday" for Christmas in stores and government venues. Among religious folks, the objection to Xmas is usually along the line that people have taken Christ out of Christmas and replaced him with an unknown (since the Greek letter chi, [C,c] which looks like the English letter x, is the symbol for an unknown quantity in mathematics).

Three Apples That Affected History

In the history of mankind, there were three apples that changed the world as we know it.

The first was when eve partook of the "apple", the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden.

Second was when isaac newton was hit by a falling apple from a tree.

And last, and the one where most of us can relate the most, is when Steve Jobs created Apple!

Better Than Happiness

While surfing for some good sites to read, I chance upon this article which I felt I really have to share with you guys. Read on to know that there is something better than happiness.

( original article is here )

Better Than Happiness

Can you tell the difference between joy and happiness? Let me give you a hint: One lasts forever but the other one is temporary. One stems from the holiness but the other one from pleasure. One fulfills but the other one makes you want more.

I bet you guessed it by now: The joy lasts forever, fulfills us and comes from being holy. Happiness is only temporary. It is not a bad thing to be happy, but if we devote our life to seeking only for happiness, we will deprive ourselves form experiencing the true Joy that comes form personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Only He can make us holy. Therefore, our happiness will be a by-product of our holiness.

Recently, I came across a blog posting with the title: The Lord’s Joy written by Jephun Joy. Jephun’s thoughts further explain why it is more important to focus on being joyful than being happy:

The Lord’s Joy

Written by Jephun Joy of Through Unhindered Eyes

As Christians we have to understand that this life is temporary and things that we surround ourselves with to make us happy are also temporary. (Matthew 6:19-21) One thing that is constant and also brings joy is Jesus Christ and knowing He is waiting for us in Heaven.

“This life is temporary and things that we surround ourselves with to make us happy are also temporary

The happiness that we encounter in our daily life is a temporary thing; it comes and goes like the seasons. But Jesus Christ gave us eternal happiness, which is the Lord’s Joy. The Joy of the Lord is the strength in my life because it is a powerful and a wonderful thing. (Nehemiah 8:9-11).

“The Joy of the Lord is the strength in my life

We go through a seesaw of emotions sometimes and we need something that will always be and that is the Love of Jesus Christ. This Joy that I talk about is based on the Great Love of Jesus Christ. When He spilled His blood for us on the cross, He spilled His Love for us all so we can have eternity of Joy within us. Jesus is the reason why heaven is attainable, Jesus is Love, Love gives Joy, Joy is always within us; so we are carrying around a piece of heaven in our hearts all the time!

“He spilled His Love for us all so we can have eternity of Joy within us.”

So, never forget that the Joy of the Lord is your peace of comfort in the good times as well as in the bad times. This Joy will never diminish but overflow! (John 15:11) The Lord commands us to always give and receive His Joy to others in all the works we do. (Philippians 4:4-5) Amen!

After reading Jephun’s article, think about this:

What are the ways in which we try to attain happiness?

Speaking in Tonques

As christians, we often hear this thing called "speaking in tonques"' and most of the time we don't really understand what it is and what is it all about.
I would like to share with you this post by pastor dennis sy of vcf greenhills, that I think may clear up a lot of misconception with regards to the spiritual gift called, "speaking in tongues".

Missing My daughter...

I know parents who get to read this will know whereof I'm speaking from.

Specially those who have daughters. My daughter Christine left for Maine, U.S.A. May of this year to complete the ojt requirements of her school. At first I was apprehensive about letting her go so far away from us and for an extended period of time at that, it being six months, although I did not let my daughter know that I was feeling so, but thinking that i can get use to her being this far away from us, I gave her my permission.

Four months have now gone by, but still the longing to see my daughter here with us still persist. I just can't get use to the idea that my daughter is this far away from us. Although I am not worried about her going astray or being badly influenced by other people because I know that we have imparted to her the proper values. Plus the most important thing of all is that we have entrusted her safety to our God.
It's just that I miss her, and not only me, even her brothers and sister do. Last night while having dinner, my son peter said something like missing the good old times when their achi christine would sort of order them around.

I just wish that time would fly by quickly and when i wake up tomorrow it is already nov 28 and she would be here again with us.
We miss you Christine!

Do You Know Your Father Well?

I never get to know my father. My brothers and sister never did too. He died when i was just 9, and my youngest brother was 3. We don't have any clear recollection of our father. No vivid memories of times spent together. I can't even remember details about the pictures i have posted here.

Now that i am a father, i want my children to be able to remember me when i'm gone. I want them to treasure the times we have together. I want them to remember me as a good father. I want them to remember how loving i am as a father. I know this is a tough task to do but i am doing my utmost. I love my children and i want them to feel it , and not just hear it from me.

I want them to feel loved. I want them to get to know me more. I want them to feel that they can always come to me for whatever it is that they need. I want them to feel that they don't have to keep any secrets from me.
I don't want them to be like me, not remembering how my father was, not knowing my father well.
How about you? Do you know your father well?

Family Ties

When we were still in school, we learned that society's basic unit is the family. A nuclear family consist of the father, mother, and the children. While an extended family would include the grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins. The filipino family is known for their extreme closeness, unlike in the west where the children move out upon reaching a certain age, we filipinos prefer that our kids live with us.I can not even imagine how lonely it must be if only I and my wife will be left alone in our home, while all my kids lived elsewhere. The house would be so quiet. The laughters and the banterings would be sorely missed! If i have my way, i would like to have all of us living inside a compound, where I and my wife will be able to enjoy our kids', their future spouses', and our future grandkids' company! Enjoying daily dinners together, family outings, celebrating milestones and birthdays, and most important of all being there for each other at all times whatever the occassion maybe.

Family. We all need one.

Fatherhood

You came home from work dead tired. Ready to lie down and rest. When all of a sudden two kids approach you and kiss you. They started narrating to you what they did at school, what they ate at lunch, and just about anything under the sun. You forgot all about your own problems and about how tired you are as soon as their lips touches your skin. Your face lit up like a bright bulb as soon as you heard their angelic voices.

Ah! Fatherhood! The most rewarding calling of all!

Every Parents' Dream

Every parents' dream is that one day they will see their children graduate from college. Every parents dreamt of being able to give their children that much needed weapon that their children can use in their foray into the world.
At this point in my life, i am experiencing this unspeakable joy that has swept me to cloud nine. At my age of 43 years, i now have two college graduates, one is now working for a multinational company, and the other one is now in the U.S.A. compeleting her ojt requirements.
A rare feat i should say for a person of my age. And i thank God first, and my wife second because without them this journey would have been impossible to accomplish on my own! I also am thankful to both my children who, being rooted in God's teaching, has never ever even for once given me any problem.
I just realized that all of this would not have been possible without the complete cooperation of each of the person involve here, my wife, my children and me. It was a good teamwork that we have!

I'm posting all of these here to inspire other parents out there, and the daughters and sons also, that with God's help, and our own diligent pursuit of our goals, nothing is impossible.

Buwaya!

"May buwaya sa kanto, mag-ingat ka sa pagmamaneho mo"
This is an oft-quoted sentence that we say to whoever is driving whenever we see policemen manning street corners here in manila.

But wait, what if the crocs can hear us and can speak out for themselves, they might as well have this to say, "Please stop comparing us to policemen, specially the corrupt ones, because never in our life have we done anything so lowly."
Yes, that could be the sentiments of all the crocodiles in this planet.
The crocodiles are magnificent creatures. Comapred to those corrupt policemen who think of nothing everyday but only on how to victimize another innocent motorist. We are in turn doing the crocs a great disservice by insisting on calling these corrupt policemen "buwaya"!
So, i hope that from this day onwards, we will refer to those policemen any name we deem fit, as long as it is not "buwaya" so as not to demean the crocs.

Greatest Gift to Our Offsprings

Inheritance!

Do you agree with me that not only the rich or the pretty well off can give something of value to their offsprings as an inheritance.
And what i am pointing out here is that money is not the best inheritance children can have. Money can easily be gone in a year or two, specially if the children have no good foundations to begin with. What we, as parents, can give our children that will really set them up with a good future is a good upbringing base upon the teachings in the bible given to us by our Lord Jesus. Secondly, we have to provide our children with the best education we as parents can afford. These two things will be worth more than all the money in this world when our children grew up and they go out into the world to live their own lives. This is the arsenal that will arm them in fighting the challenges that the world will be throwing their way.
A Godly upbringing and the best education, not money, is the best inheritance!
