The Origin of "X-Mas"

have you ever wonder why some people tend to write X-Mas instead of Christmas? i was curious about this too and did some net surfing to find out why and i chance upon this article from "The Voice - Biblical and Theological Resources for Growing Christians", whick i am sharing to you just in case you are curious about this xmas thing just as i am. here goes the article below:

Some people seem to get worked up easily about things that are either largely irrelevant or incidental, or that they do not really understand. This seems to be the case with some religious folk when the topic is an aspect of Christianity that is personally important to them.
For example, around Christmas each year there are always those who loudly decry the use of the abbreviation "Xmas" as some kind of blasphemy against Christ and Christianity. This concern has been elevated recently with the public debates about manger scenes and the substitution of "holiday" for Christmas in stores and government venues. Among religious folks, the objection to Xmas is usually along the line that people have taken Christ out of Christmas and replaced him with an unknown (since the Greek letter chi, [C,c] which looks like the English letter x, is the symbol for an unknown quantity in mathematics).

Three Apples That Affected History

In the history of mankind, there were three apples that changed the world as we know it.

The first was when eve partook of the "apple", the forbidden fruit in the garden of eden.

Second was when isaac newton was hit by a falling apple from a tree.

And last, and the one where most of us can relate the most, is when Steve Jobs created Apple!

Better Than Happiness

While surfing for some good sites to read, I chance upon this article which I felt I really have to share with you guys. Read on to know that there is something better than happiness.

( original article is here )

Better Than Happiness

Can you tell the difference between joy and happiness? Let me give you a hint: One lasts forever but the other one is temporary. One stems from the holiness but the other one from pleasure. One fulfills but the other one makes you want more.

I bet you guessed it by now: The joy lasts forever, fulfills us and comes from being holy. Happiness is only temporary. It is not a bad thing to be happy, but if we devote our life to seeking only for happiness, we will deprive ourselves form experiencing the true Joy that comes form personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Only He can make us holy. Therefore, our happiness will be a by-product of our holiness.

Recently, I came across a blog posting with the title: The Lord’s Joy written by Jephun Joy. Jephun’s thoughts further explain why it is more important to focus on being joyful than being happy:

The Lord’s Joy

Written by Jephun Joy of Through Unhindered Eyes

As Christians we have to understand that this life is temporary and things that we surround ourselves with to make us happy are also temporary. (Matthew 6:19-21) One thing that is constant and also brings joy is Jesus Christ and knowing He is waiting for us in Heaven.

“This life is temporary and things that we surround ourselves with to make us happy are also temporary

The happiness that we encounter in our daily life is a temporary thing; it comes and goes like the seasons. But Jesus Christ gave us eternal happiness, which is the Lord’s Joy. The Joy of the Lord is the strength in my life because it is a powerful and a wonderful thing. (Nehemiah 8:9-11).

“The Joy of the Lord is the strength in my life

We go through a seesaw of emotions sometimes and we need something that will always be and that is the Love of Jesus Christ. This Joy that I talk about is based on the Great Love of Jesus Christ. When He spilled His blood for us on the cross, He spilled His Love for us all so we can have eternity of Joy within us. Jesus is the reason why heaven is attainable, Jesus is Love, Love gives Joy, Joy is always within us; so we are carrying around a piece of heaven in our hearts all the time!

“He spilled His Love for us all so we can have eternity of Joy within us.”

So, never forget that the Joy of the Lord is your peace of comfort in the good times as well as in the bad times. This Joy will never diminish but overflow! (John 15:11) The Lord commands us to always give and receive His Joy to others in all the works we do. (Philippians 4:4-5) Amen!

After reading Jephun’s article, think about this:

What are the ways in which we try to attain happiness?
